Officially the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, an island country of the Caribbean in the Lucayan Archipelago, in the Atlantic: 700 islands and over 2,500 cays, north of Cuba, north-west of Hispaniola and the Turks and Caicos Islands, southeast of Florida and east of the Florida Keys. Nassau, on New Providence, is its capital and biggest city.
