Westernmost and largest of the Barlavento islands of Cape Verde
Cape Verde's most northwesterly island. Covering 785 km² (303 sq mi), it is the biggest of the Barlavento Islands and the country's second-biggest island.

Also called by its Portuguese name, Cabo Verde, and officially the Republic of Cabo Verde, an island nation in the eastern Atlantic, off West Africa. Its ten volcanic islands cover about 4,033 square kilometres (1,557 sq mi) of land in all, and lie 600 to 850 kilometres west of Cap-Vert, continental Africa's westernmost point, which gave them their name.
