High pyroclastic shield volcano in the Sahara
Also called Emi Koussou, a tall pyroclastic shield volcano at the Tibesti Mountains' southeastern tip, in the central Sahara, in northern Chad's Borkou Region. One of several volcanoes of the Tibesti, it is the Sahara's highest mountain, reaching 3,447 metres (11,309 ft) and rising 3 km (1.9 mi) above the sandstone plains around it.

Libya lies to its north, Sudan to its east, the Central African Republic to its south, Nigeria and Cameroon to its southwest and Niger to its west. Of its 20 million people, 1.6 million live in N'Djamena, the capital and biggest city.
