UNESCO World Heritage Site in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
Once also called the Homage tower of the city wall, one of the surviving parts of the Walls of Santo Domingo, which UNESCO recognises as the oldest military structure of European origin in the Americas. The Spanish built it in 1502–1508 at the entrance to Santo Domingo's Ciudad Colonial, Dominican Republic, above the Ozama River.

UNESCO World Heritage Site
Known variously as the Cathedral of the Americas, Cathedral Basilica of Santa María la Menor and Minor Basilica of Santa María de la Encarnación, and officially as the “Minor Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady Saint Mary of the Incarnation or Annunciation”, a cathedral in Santo Domingo's Colonial City dedicated to St. Mary of the Incarnation. Begun in 1504 and finished in 1550, it is the oldest cathedral still standing in the Americas, and the second built there, after Garðar Cathedral in Greenland.

Island off the coast of the Dominican Republic
A tropical island of 110 square kilometres (42 sq mi), 1.5 miles (2.4 km) off the south-east coast of the Dominican Republic, in La Altagracia province. It is a nature reserve protected by the government, within Cotubanamá National Park.

An island country taking up the east of Hispaniola, in the Caribbean Sea's Greater Antilles, in the North Atlantic. It has a land border with Haiti on the west and a sea border with Puerto Rico on the east, and covers the eastern five-eighths of Hispaniola, one of just two Caribbean islands, the other being Saint Martin, divided between two sovereign states. In the Antilles only Cuba is bigger, at 48,671 square kilometers (18,792 sq mi) for the Dominican Republic, and only Haiti more populous: about 11.4 million people in 2024, 3.6 million of them in the metropolitan area of Santo Domingo, the capital.
