Also called the Faroes, a North Atlantic archipelago and a rigsdel of the Kingdom of Denmark, lying between Norway, Iceland and Scotland's Shetland isles and Hebrides. The islands had 54,870 inhabitants in November 2025 and cover 1,393 km² (538 sq mi) of land. Their official language, Faroese, is partly mutually intelligible with Icelandic.
