Historic fort in Guadeloupe
A French fort above the town of Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe. It was a key site in the struggle between France and Britain in the Caribbean, and later in the Guadeloupean resistance led by Louis Delgrès against the return of slavery, a task Napoleon I had given to Antoine Richepanse.

Island in Guadeloupe
The most easterly of the Îles des Saintes, in the Guadeloupe archipelago. Like neighbouring Terre-de-Bas, it takes its name from sailors' vocabulary, which called islands exposed to the wind "highland" and islands sheltered from it "lowlands".
