Archipelago in the north-western Pacific Ocean
Also just the Marianas, a crescent-shaped archipelago in the north-western Pacific formed by the summits of fifteen mostly dormant volcanic mountains lined up north to south, between 12° and 21° north and along 145° east. Lying east of the Philippines, north of New Guinea, west-southwest of Hawaii and south-southeast of Japan, they mark the eastern edge of the Philippine Sea.

US national monument in the Mariana Archipelago
A United States National Monument set up by President George W. Bush through presidential proclamation no. 8335 on January 6, 2009. It has no dry land but protects 95,216 square miles (246,610 km²) of underwater land and sea at several places around the Mariana Archipelago, including submerged volcanos and part of the Mariana Trench.

National Historical Park of the US
A protected area of several units on Guam, a United States territory, set up in 1978 to honour those who took part in World War II's Pacific Theater. Alone in the National Park System, it honours the bravery and sacrifice of everyone who took part in that theatre.
