Earth's highest mountain
Earth's highest mountain above sea level, called SagarmÄthÄ in Nepali, Chamolangma in Sherpa and Jomolangma/Ähomolangma in Tibetan. It stands in the Mahalangur Himal sub-range of the Himalayas, and its summit marks part of the border between China and Nepal.

A place of Buddhist pilgrimage in Nepal's Lumbini Province, Rupandehi District, where, according to sacred texts and Buddhist commentaries, Queen Maya bore Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, c. 563 BCE.
7th-highest mountain on Earth
A Nepalese peak that, at 8,167 metres (26,795 ft), is the seventh highest in the world, and the highest to lie wholly inside one country. Its main summit, Dhaulagiri I, is also the top of the Gandaki river basin.

Also called the Nepal Valley, Nepa Valley or Swaniga:, National Capital Area, a bowl-shaped valley in Nepal's Himalayas. It lies where ancient civilisations of the Indian subcontinent and wider Asia met, and has at least 130 important monuments, several of them Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage sites.

3rd-highest mountain on Earth
The world's third-highest mountain, its summit at 8,586 m (28,169 ft), in the Kangchenjunga Himal, a part of the Himalayas bounded by the Teesta River to the east, the Lhonak River and Jongsang La to the north and the Tamur River to the west.

4th-highest mountain on Earth
The fourth-highest mountain on Earth, after Kangchenjunga, K2 and Mount Everest. Its main summit, 8,516 metres (27,940 ft) up, lies on the frontier of China's Tibet Autonomous Region and Nepal's Khumbu region.

Officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, a landlocked South Asian country lying mostly in the Himalayas, with parts in the Indo-Gangetic Plain. China's Tibet Autonomous Region lies to its north and India to its south, east and west; the Siliguri Corridor narrowly separates it from Bangladesh, and India's Sikkim state from Bhutan.
