A large dormant stratovolcano in Tanzania. Africa's highest mountain and the world's highest free-standing mountain, it stands 4,900 m (16,100 ft) over the plateau from which it rises, and its top is 5,895 m (19,341 ft) above the sea.

A somma–stratovolcano in Campania, Italy, rising close to the shore of the Gulf of Naples, roughly 9 km (5.6 mi) from the city of Naples, which lies to its west. It is one of several volcanoes making up the Campanian volcanic arc.

A dormant shield volcano on Hawaiʻi island. At 13,803 feet above sea level, its peak is the highest point in Hawaii, and makes Hawaiʻi the island with the second-highest summit of any, after New Guinea.

An active stratovolcano of the Andes in Cotopaxi National Park, Cotopaxi Province, Ecuador. Quito is about 50 km (31.1 mi) to its north, and the city of Latacunga 31 km (19 mi) to its southwest. At 5,897 m (19,347 ft), it is Ecuador's second-highest summit.

Also called Vulcan, a small Italian volcanic island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, about 20 km (12 mi) north of Sicily, the southernmost of the seven Aeolian Islands. Known for its volcanic activity, it has several calderas, one of them among Italy's four active volcanoes that are not under the sea.
